Troubleshooting coin jam and rejection issues

Coin Jam or Coin Rejection Problem

There may be instances when a customer puts in a coin it never is returned. This is called a coin jam. The other situation is when a customer inserts a coin it is rejected and appears in the lower coin slot.

When a customer inserts a coin and it never returns - the coin gets stuck inside the mechanism.

Coin Rejection

When a customer inserts a coin and it is immediately rejected, appearing in the lower coin return slot.

Unplug machine from wall outlet

Safety First: Always disconnect power before performing any maintenance or troubleshooting on the coin acceptor.

Locate the red button on the coin acceptor and push it forward

Find the red button mechanism on the coin acceptor unit and gently push it forward to release the internal components.

Open the coin acceptor door

Next open the coin acceptor door, it will swing open on its hinges. The door can open to approximately 120 degrees.

Remove any coins from the coin channel

Remove any coins that may have lodged inside the coin channel. Check carefully for any debris or foreign objects that might be causing the jam.

Lift up coin holder

Carefully lift up the coin holder mechanism to access the coin that may be stuck underneath.

Remove and re-insert the coin

Remove the coin from the holder and then re-insert the same coin back into the holder. This helps reset the coin acceptor mechanism and ensures proper alignment.

After Completing All Steps

Once you have completed all the steps above, plug the machine back into the wall outlet and test the coin acceptor with a few coins to ensure it's working properly.
